I am not assuming anything you do in character is translated to my character unless specifically told.

For example, the detect magic findings are not to my character knowledge unless he's specifically told.

generally speaking, that's correct. But unless the acting character specifically states that they are keeping information to themselves, for the sake of time we'll assume knowledge like that is made public as soon as it's discovered. Any special or secret information can always be relayed through a PM.
